My paintings are large-scale mixed media pieces built around landscapes and cityscapes. I combine paint with real branches, recyclables, biomass and other materials to create depth, texture and an almost architectural quality. I love the point where a painting starts to move beyond a flat surface and becomes something you want to explore up close.

Digital work gives me another way to experiment. I combine my background in traditional art with digital tools to explore ideas, develop visual identities and approach creative projects from a different perspective. The medium may change, but the process is still about trying something new and finding the most interesting way to communicate an idea.

Drawing brings me back to the essentials: line, form, texture and observation. I often mix traditional drawing techniques with alternative materials and found objects, allowing the work to develop beyond what I originally imagined. That element of discovery is a big part of what keeps drawing interesting for me.

Some ideas simply don’t fit neatly into painting, drawing or digital work, and I like that. My special projects give me the freedom to take creativity into completely different areas. I’m the co-founder and designer of the poker darts game Texas Toss’em®, and my work as Digital Media and Art Director for Ontario Skateboarding gives me another way to bring art, design and community together.
